Five years after Lynette Daley's naked and bloodied body was discovered on a northern NSW beach, two men will face court accused of causing her death.

Ms Daley was found on Ten Mile Beach in January 2011.

She had allegedly been subjected to a brutal sexual encounter.

A man who claimed to be Ms Daley's boyfriend, Adrian Attwater, and his friend, Paul Maris, were initially charged by police and later found themselves at the centre of an inquest into Ms Daley's death.

But it was not until this year that Department of Public Prosecutions Director Lloyd Babb SC announced prosecutors would take the matter to trial, after he sought advice from independent counsel in the face of intense public pressure.

Attwater has been charged with manslaughter and aggravated sexual intercourse without consent, while Maris faces charges of aggravated sexual intercourse without consent and accessory after the fact to manslaughter.

Both men are due to face Grafton Local Court on Tuesday.
