Men rescued from fast-flowing river after four-wheel drive swept away
Four men were rescued from a heavily flowing river in Sydney's west after their four-wheel drive became stuck.
A major rescue operation was mounted last night to rescue the men who tried to cross the swollen Nepean River at Emu Plains.
Police were called at about 7pm yesterday after the driver of a Ford Ranger 4WD and three passengers drove around a locked gate on Russell Street, Emu Heights.

The car made two successful river crossings but hit trouble when its wheels lost traction and was swept into fast flowing waters.
Its four occupants managed to climb out of the cabin and onto the roof, before seeking refuge on an island in the middle of the river. One of the men used his mobile phone to call for help.

A combined operation involving NSW Police land and air units, the Blue Mountains Rescue Squad, Fire and Rescue NSW, paramedics and the SES managed to retrieve the man with rescue boats at about 11pm.
They were found to be uninjured.
A salvage operation to recover the vehicle will begin today.
