Two men who went missing after their boat sank in rough weather brought on by Cyclone Marcia have been found alive and apparently well on an island off the coast.
The men, aged 38 and 39, were travelling to Fraser Island yesterday morning on a camping and fishing trip when their boat sank.
They sent a relative a text message that morning but police were not told until the afternoon.
Wild weather caused by Cyclone Marcia earlier forced water police to call off the search for the men, as it was unsafe to launch boats or helicopters.
However, the search resumed later this morning and the two men were soon found on nearby Moon Boom island.
A police spokesman said they would be picked up and likely taken to hospital for observation but they appeared "safe and well".
One of the men is from Brisbane, and the other is from Maryborough.
