A motorcyclist has died after colliding with a car west of Melbourne this morning.

Police said the male rider was travelling south along Bulmans Road, Melton West, when he turned onto High Street and veered onto the wrong side of the road about 6.45am.

The motorcyclist died at the scene. Detectives believe he was not wearing a helmet.

The driver of the car escaped with no injuries and stopped to help.

It’s believed the rider was travelling in a convoy with a black car and second bike, who did not stop at the scene.

Police are now looking to speak with those witnesses with investigations ongoing.

High Street remains closed between Bulmans Road and Fairhaven Boulevard, with VicRoads advising motorists to take alternative routes.
