Melbourne's beloved falcon hits the sky after misadventure

One of Melbourne's beloved falcons has soared into the skies once again after months of rehabilitation following a misadventure.

Wildlife Victoria and first responders were called last month when the famous fledgling became trapped behind a glass balcony screen on a skyscraper in Melbourne's CBD.

After being swiftly rescued, experienced carers attempted to release the falcon in Fitzroy Gardens, only to discover it couldn't fly due to a possible soft tissue injury to its right wing.

The falcon was transferred to Melbourne Zoo's marine response unit where it underwent an initial examination including X-rays and blood tests.

The journey wasn't over for the falcon after it was moved to Healesville Sanctuary's Raptor Rehabilitation Centre for special care.

After receiving anti-inflammatory medication, resting, and building up its flight fitness, the falcon was returned to a location near the Yarra River in Melbourne.

Melbourne Zoo said due to its age of independence, the falcon no longer needed to return to life on the ledge with its parents and would forge its own way in the wild.
