Traveller fined after caught with pigeon eggs at Melbourne Airport
A man attempting to enter Australia with 23 pigeon eggs in his luggage by the Australian Border Force (ABF) has been fined more than $6000.
The discovery was made after officers questioned the passenger when he arrived at Melbourne International Airport on May 1.
Officers performed a baggage examination and found the pigeon eggs in a metal box wrapped in cotton and aluminium foil.

Officers also located 9750 grams of undeclared Nakhla – a popular type of Shisha tobacco – concealed within various vacuum sealed sunflower seeds in the traveller's baggage.
The Australian man opted to abandon the undeclared tobacco.
The pigeon eggs were referred to biosecurity officers and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry fined the man $6260.
