When emergency services arrived at the scene, they continued their attempts to revive the diver.

Sadly the man died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.

Police will investigate the exact circumstances around the incident and prepare a report for the coroner.

The death follows the drowning of a family of four near Phillip Island in late January, the worst Victorian drowning event in almost 20 years.
