Melbourne police open fire at car using fake number plates

Melbourne police are hunting for a vehicle displaying false plates after it failed to stop at a check point, forcing an officer to open fire.
Police were conducting random stop checks outside the Mullum Mullum tunnel on the Eastlink about 1.30pm when the vehicle sped up, forcing officers to jump out of the way.

One officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by the car.
The vehicle then drove off and one of the officers discharged his firearm, Victoria Police said in a statement.
A spokesman said the vehicle was displaying false number plates.
The Eastlink is now closed in both directions as police hunt for the car.
