Pasta factory destroyed by flames in Melbourne’s south-west

A two-storey Melbourne pasta factory has been destroyed by flames overnight.

Fire crews spent last night at the Millgrove Pasta factory on Macaulay Street in Williamstown after being alerted to the blaze already engulfing the building shortly after 6pm.

It took around 50 firefighters, including three air units, more than an hour to bring the blaze under control.

Gas cylinders were quickly moved from the building.

There were safety concerns about one of the walls which was leaning, prompting firefighters to battle it externally.

Crews managed to contain to protect adjoining buildings.

Martin Braid, Assistant Chief Fire Officer, said the blaze gutted the factory.

“The blaze has destroyed the interior of the building,” he said. 

“At this stage, we don’t believe it is suspicious.”

The exact cause of the blaze is still under investigation.
