Man rushed to hospital after 'targeted' shooting at 'busy' Melbourne location

An investigation has been launched after a man was shot in a targeted shootingat a "busy" location in Melbourne's west on Friday night.

Police said the victim was sitting in a vehicle on Mt Derrimut Road in Deer Park about 9pm when the shooting occurred.

The man was shot several times and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the shooting was a targeted attack.

"The location of the attack is known to be busy, with multiple vehicles thought to have been nearby," police said in a statement confirming Armed Crime Squad detectives are now investigating.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV/dash cam footage of the attack are encouraged to come forward.
