Christmas traffic headache for Melbourne holiday commuters

The Christmas holidays are here, but for drivers heading home along some of Melbourne's busiest arterials, the holiday season just got a little further away.

Traffic has ground to a stand-still on the Monash Freeway and Princes Freeway, while the West Gate near Kings Way has also slowed right down.

A multi-vehicle collision has left outbound traffic on the Monash and Princes Freeways backed-up for kilometres with only one lane remaining open.

West Gate Freeway, Port Melbourne - left lane closed on the inbound exit to Kings Way due to a collision.  

Three inbound lanes, including the bus lane, have been closed on Wellington Road, Clayton before the Princes Highway with just one lane remaining open.

Lanes are closed westbound on Manningham Road, Bulleen while two northbound lanes are closed near Ringwood Bypass due to a multi vehicle collision.
