Blue skies and sunshine as Melbourne Marathon runners kick off 2024 event
The 2024 Melbourne marathon is in full swing today.
Early morning performances kicked off outside of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which is the finish line, to welcome runners and spectators to the annual event.
Australian Olympic silver medallist Jessica Hull rang the bell to signify the start of the marathon.
Thousands of runners waited in the sunshine early this morning to be a part of the action.
Around 11,000 people are taking part in this year's marathon, which kicks off at Batman Avenue and runs until the MCG.
