Melbourne man dies after home sprayed with bullets in drive-by shooting

A Melbourne man has died and a young boy has been injured after shots were fired into their home overnight.

The man was hit by a bullet when his Darebin Drive home in Thomastown was sprayed with gunfire at around 3.45am.

He was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a critical condition, but later died from his injuries.

A four-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The shots were fired from a car, which neighbours say fled the scene. 

Police say a number of other people were also inside the home at the time but escaped without injury.
