Melbourne man charged after hit and run which left two-year-old boy with broken leg

A 20-year-old man has been charged after a two-year-old boy suffered a broken leg following an alleged hit and run in Melbourne’s north.

The Mernda man was arrested following an investigation into last week’s crash at Craigieburn in which the boy, a baby and two women were struck by a car.

Police allege a white Nissan Skyline left Grand Boulevard and struck the group about 9.50am on May 30.

The eight-month-old baby was taken to hospital as a precaution. The two women were not injured.

The three people inside the car, believed to be two males and a female, allegedly failed to offer assistance and fled the scene on foot.

Detectives have charged the 20-year-old man with theft of motor vehicle, reckless conduct, and various other offences.

He was due to front Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court later today.
