'Messy split' blamed as woman 'mows down ex's new girlfriend'

A man whose ex-partner allegedly mowed down his new girlfriend in an attempt to hit him has said he “blames himself”.

The 54-year-old, from Clayton, Melbourne, who requested not to be identified, was in his car with his 34-year-old girlfriend and travelling west along Bourke Street in Clarinda last night.

At about 8.20pm, their blue vehicle was rammed by dark Volvo, allegedly driven by the man’s former partner.

As his passenger exited the passenger’s seat, she was mown down.

“She literally went into the air about that high, and she came down like a ball,” the man said.

The woman was left with a broken leg, while the 40-year-old Volvo driver fled the scene.

The man at the centre of the drama told 9NEWS he blames himself..

He described the situation between his ex and new partner as "messy", and that he never meant for either woman to get hurt.

“It was all my fault because I lied… I was seeing two girls at the same time.”

His former partner was arrested this afternoon, and has since been charged with intentionally causing injury and conduct endangering life.
