Melbourne driver’s ute rolls into sea at boat ramp

A Melbourne boating enthusiast has been left with a very damp car after forgetting to engage his handbrake on a Newport boat ramp.

The man was attempting to haul his boat from the water at about 4pm on Saturday when his white Ford Ranger ute rolled into the water.

The vehicle quickly became fully submerged, with the open windows and tray allowing water to flood the car.

Witness Andrew, 13, said he was watching the nearby boats with his father when he saw the man struggling to salvage his car.

“He left his handbrake down and was taking his boat off his trailer then the car and trailer went under,” he told 9news.com.au.

Police were called and with help from a tow truck and Andrew’s dad, the car was pulled from the sea, unscathed but a little wetter than before.
