A Victorian driver is on the run after smashing his out-of-control car into a shop window in Melbourne’s north, while trying to evade police this morning.

Police called off their pursuit of the vehicle after it sped away from them about 4am.

But the vehicle later struck a metal bin, fire hydrant and metal bollard before crashing through a shop window on Pascoe Vale Rd, near Broadmeadows train station.

Police said the driver fled the scene and is now being sought by police.
