Victorian racetracks over the Melbourne Cup long weekend may get a little soggy as rainclouds threaten to dampen celebrations over the public holiday.

Spring weather is usually a little unpredictable in Victoria – and this year will be no different.

Gloomy conditions and possible showers are expected from tomorrow until Melbourne Cup day on Tuesday, with a brief hot spell on Sunday between Derby Day and the race that stops the nation.

Here's what the weather is forecast to look like over the long weekend in Victoria.

Saturday – Derby Day

The sun might be fighting to make an appearance at Flemington during Derby Day this Saturday.

It is forecasted to be cloudy and quite cool in the morning, with temperatures only expected to reach a top of 21-degrees at around 4pm.

Blue skies might peek through the clouds into the early afternoon.

But luckily for punters, there's no chance of a shower for Saturday.

Victorians taking an extra day off to squeeze the most out of the long weekend might be disappointed as temperatures are predicted to plummet on Monday.

The BoM predicts it will reach a chilly top of 16 degrees across Melbourne.

There's also a possibility of between 4 and 25mm of rainfall too.

Tuesday - Melbourne Cup Day

Conditions aren't expected to be ideal at Flemington for Cup Day on Tuesday, November 4.

It will be a mostly overcast day and a deluge threatens to drench racegoers at the track with a 25 per cent chance of up to 20mm falling during cup celebrations.

It doesn't look like there will be much relief from the rain over the course of the day.

The BoM forecasts the light showers will stick around for when the race kicks off at 3pm.

Cloudy conditions with west to south-westerly winds up to 25km/h could also whip up some dreary weather throughout the morning.

Temperatures are expected to only nudge 18 degrees.
