Three police officers injured after pursuit in Melbourne's west

Several police officers have been injured after using their vehicles to block a fleeing car in Melbourne's west.

The Holden Sedan was first spotted in Melton travelling north along Exford Road about 10.50am.

Police believe the sedan was involved in an alleged police ramming in Melton yesterday.

Superintendent Michael Cruse said officers attempted to intercept the vehicle however the driver allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.

"Police deployed stop sticks on Barries Road in an attempt to stop the vehicle however the driver refused to stop," he said.

Two marked police cars and an unmarked vehicle were used to box the offending vehicle in behind a busy shopping centre.

After stopping the driver, officers arrested a 27-year-old Melton West man and a 55-year-old Melton South man.

Both men were taken to hospital.

One man has been released and is now in police custody.

The other man remains in hospital under police guard.

"Police had to take this action to ensure there was no more danger to the public," Cruse said.

"It was extremely dangerous."

Three police officers were injured during the arrest, including one now in hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Cruse said officers located drugs including cannabis and white powder, an axe and some ammunition while the vehicle.
