Young woman held at knifepoint and several families terrorised after series of violent home invasions across Melbourne

A young woman has been held at knifepoint and several other families terrorised after a series of home invasions in Melbourne's inner south-east.

Police said six homes were broken into from Malvern East to Armadale from around 9.45pm yesterday until the early hours of this morning.

Victims had luxury vehicles stolen and their homes trashed during the violent invasions, with the alleged offenders still on the run.

Police said the three men first targeted a home on Waverley Road, Malvern East, just before 9.45pm.

After breaking into a car and attempting to steal tools from a toolbox inside the car, they made their way to a home on nearby Alcala Avenue, about 10pm.

Armed with a knife, they stole the home's resident, Sid's, prized 2018 Porsche.

He, his wife and two young children were all home at the time.

"They came into the house, a room away," he said.

"The whole household is shaken."

Around 1.35am, police said the group broke into a home on Wattle Grove, gaining access to a rear shed and stealing a number of tools.

A short time later, they attempted to break into a home on Avalon Road but were unsuccessful and fled.

At about 2.30am, the group pulled up to an address on Paxton Street.

Despite being spooked by the resident, who was at home at the time, the trio made off with her 2013 Mercedes Benz.

A short time later, around 3.20am, the offenders broke into a home on Avalon Road where three residents were sleeping.

Police said a young woman was in bed when the offenders held her at knifepoint before trashing the home and speeding off in two luxury cars, a 2017 Volkswagen Golf and Porsche Wagon.

The men were last seen speeding along the Monash Freeway in another stolen Porsche, with police tracking them at speeds of more than 200 kilometres per hour.

The Airwing tracked it at speeds of more than 200 kilometres per hour.

No one was injured during the crime spree.

"They should be caught because the fact they were so brazen, is very scary," Sid said.
