Sarah was left 'covered in blood' when part of the ceiling collapsed at Bad Omens' Melbourne concert

Sarah Merlino arrived at Melbourne's Festival Hall to see her favourite band play on Wednesday night. She left "covered in blood".

The 28-year-old from Geelong, Victoria, was in the crowd when a section of the venue's ceiling fell onto fans during American heavy metal band Bad Omens' show on January 22.

Footage of the incident shared to social media captured the moment confetti guns went off and the panel dropping onto fans seconds later, causing multiple injuries.

Merlino was among those injured when the panel struck her hand while she was recording the performance on her phone and threw her to the ground.

"I was pretty lucky that I was recording, because if I hadn't been it would have definitely gotten my face like the other girl next to me," she told 9news.com.au.

"The girl next to me was in complete shock, blood everywhere. Then I look down at myself and I've got all her blood all over me as well."

The band didn't see the incident and continued to perform as Merlino tried to help the bleeding girl to her feet.

Paramedics at the venue rushed to help, treating the girl before sending her to hospital in an ambulance.

They also helped Merlino "clean all the blood off" herself before she realised her injuries were worse than she had originally believed.

"I looked down and realised, 'Oh, my finger's purple,'" she said.

Medics initially thought Merlino's left index finger had been broken when the ceiling panel struck her.

A trip to the hospital for X-rays revealed that Merlino had sustained soft tissue damage and possible damage to her ligaments.

Unable to work her warehouse job with an injured hand, Merlino has had to take time off and worries it will eat into her sick leave and annual leave if she doesn't heal quickly.

She also has bills to pay and fears the financial fallout if she can't work for an extended period.

Festival Hall staff reached out to Merlino after the incident to check on her and she hopes measures will be taken to ensure something like this doesn't happen at the venue again.

"That place has been pretty run down for years," she said of the venue space. "It's been overdue for upgrades for a very long time."

A spokesperson for Festival Hall told 9news.com.au "Thank you to our onsite first aid team who responded quickly.

"We have conducted an immediate review of the special effects vendor and additional safety checks before [Thursday] night's show."

Bad Omens singer Noah Sebastian addressed the situation onstage last night, insisting he hadn't seen the incident take place the night prior.

"I'm so glad everyone is OK. First of all, I didn't see that happen OK, I want to make that very clear," he told the crowd.

"[I was] in the zone, doing my thing, I was not expecting a ceiling tile to fall."

Sebastian also called for a minute's silence to honour the fans who had been injured, a touch Merlino appreciated after the scary incident.

"It's definitely not the way you want to end a concert, ending up in hospital."

Bad Omens will perform in Brisbane on January 25, then have two shows booked in Sydney on January 28 and 29.

Festival Hall has been contacted regarding Merlino's experience.
