Parts of Melbourne’s CBD were closed tonight after a mental panel flew off a crane in high winds.

Crews are called to the corner of Elizabeth and Franklins streets just after 6pm after the debris fell to the ground when chains attached to the crane “whipped around” in high winds, the MFB said.

"Wind gust caught the cranes cable which then struck the side of the building, causing a two metre panel to fall to the ground.

"This also dislodged two other aluminium panels."

No one was injured.

High Angle Rescue Crews abseiled down the side of the structure and removed the additional two dislodged panels.
