Former Auburn council deputy mayor Salim Mehajer has lost his bid to overturn an apprehended violence order preventing him from approaching the father of a Lindt Cafe siege survivor.

In March a magistrate dismissed an intimidation charge against Mehajer but extended an AVO involving alleged threats made against Bruce Herat, father of Lindt café siege survivor Joel Herat, for 12 months.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Mr Herat told a court earlier this year that Mehajer had threatened to track him down and kidnap his children.

The dispute had allegedly been sparked by an argument over weights at a Burwood gym, where Mr Herat is a personal trainer.

Mehajer challenged the continuation of the AVO in the Downing Centre District Court on Wednesday but Judge Paul Conlon dismissed the appeal, confirming the AVO.
