Man left with serious injuries after 'brutal' attack at MCG

A Kensington man has been left with serious injuries after he was allegedly assaulted at the MCG during Monday's Anzac Day AFL game.

Police are currently investigating the alleged attack on the 54-year-old man which occurred in the last quarter of the match.

The victim says he was punched about 15 times before spending the night in hospital.

The victim says he was left injured in the toilet of the Olympic Room after the dinner attended by hundreds of people.

It's alleged the victim was attacked by two young men, after he criticised them for smoking.

"(They) just left hooked me right to the side of my face... that spun me around, instantaneously I lost vision," the victim told 9News.

"I went to put my hand on my eye just to you know, sort of hold it, thinking 'what's going on?'. And before I even got a chance, a hail of strikes to the front and back of my head repeatedly.

"I was only able to get my eye open for the first time this morning."

Police confirmed the victim was taken to hospital with injuries from the alleged assault.

They say the exact circumstances surrounding the assault are unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
