Matt Priddis wins 2014 Brownlow medal
West Coast Eagles midfielder Matt Priddis has won the 2014 Brownlow Medal after voting went down to the final round.
Priddis pulled ahead of late leader, Fremantle's Nathan Fyfe, only after votes were in for round 23.
The Eagles player said the win was a "huge honour" and something he was "very proud of" in his acceptance speech.
"I'm a shy kind of guy and I don't see myself alongside the likes of other Brownlow Medal winners," he said.
He is the third West Coast Eagles player to win the game's highest award, after Chris Judd (2004) and Ben Cousins (2005).
The medal has been awarded every year since 1924, except for between 1942 and 1945 as a mark of respect for soldiers fighting overseas in World War II.
Ahead of the awards, the favourites were Geelong captain Joel Kennedy and Sydney Swans champion Buddy Franklin.
Gold Coast Suns captain Gary Ablett Jr was a standout player for much of the season but sustained a damaging shoulder injury in round 16.
