The lifeless body of a massive shark has been pulled from nets near Queensland's Snapper Rocks.

The creature was untangled from the shark net and removed by contractors for the Queensland Department of Fisheries just a few hundred metres from the highly populated breaks in Coolangatta, the Courier Mail reports.

Surfers and beachgoers were clearly able to see the shark being removed from the shore, with local surf photographer Juan Medina posting a photo of the moment to his 30,000 Instagram followers.

”Sad to see this today,” he noted in a post accompanying the photo.

Queensland shark control program manager Jeff Krause maintained shark nets are proven deterrents and human safety was key.

Fisheries Queensland are looking into the matter.
