Hunt for gunman after shots fired from one car into another

Police are hunting a gunman in Sydney after shots were fired from one vehicle to another at Mascot last night. 

Witnesses say that the shots were fired from a white Ford ranger ute into a Mazda sedan on Jackson Drive at around 6pm.  Both vehicles fled the scene a short time later.

When police arrived and commenced their investigation, they discovered projectile casings at the scene of the shooting, which occurred near the intersection with Kent Street.

Detectives and forensic investigators visited the scene of the shooting throughout the evening and closed part of the road as they conducted their investigations.

Later, the Mazda, which police believe was involved in the incident, was discovered on a street in Riverwood, some 16km away.  The vehicle is believed to have bullet damage.

Police are still searching for the Ford Ranger and its occupants and have asked for witnesses or anyone with additional information to come forward.  

It is not known whether anyone was injured in the shooting, or how many people were inside the respective vehicles when it took place.
