'What the heck is that': Inferno erupts while police talk to media about unrelated house fire

A fire has erupted behind a police officer while he was talking to journalists about an unrelated deadly blaze in Queensland.

Maryborough Acting Inspector Wade Lee was addressing media this morning following a fatal house fire in the region.

The conference was then interrupted by visible black smoke in the distance, coming from a second fire at a nearby recycling plant.

"What the heck is that?" one of the journalists asked, spotting the rising smoke cloud.

"I imagine it's a fire of some sort," Inspector Lee responded.

"I'll see you at the next one," he added before ending the conference.

The scene followed a house fire at Garden Street, with authorities discovering the body of a man inside.

The fatal inferno broke out about 8am on Thursday and was one of two large blazes emergency services were called to in the town.

Neighbours watched on powerlessly as the house transformed into an inferno, with firefighters initially struggling to gain access to the property due to extreme heat.

Once the fire was contained, authorities discovered a man's body at the back of the home, setting up a crime scene as the man's formal identification is ongoing.

"The front of the house was fully involved in fire and the back of the house was issuing in thick black smoke," Mark Long from QFES told 9News.

Resources were deployed from the first fire to bring the second fire , reportedly started after a car caught fire, under control.

No one was injured at the recycling plant.

Police continue to investigate both fires.
