Mark Thompson lands in LA tight-lipped amid drug scandal back home

AFL great Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson has landed in Los Angeles just weeks after police raided his home as part of a probe into alleged drug trafficking.

Thompson arrived at LAX from Melbourne this afternoon, refusing to answer questions about the scandal. 

“Have you been mixed up in the wrong crowd,” 9NEWS’ US Correspondent Lizzie Pearl asked.

“No comment,” the 54-year-old replied.

He told 9NEWS he was in the United States for "a holiday" with his son.

The former Geelong coach handed himself into police on January 5 after police raided his Port Melbourne home.

He was arrested and interviewed by detectives, before being released without charge.

Three other people have been arrested as part of the probe, including 28-year-old Thomas Windsor and 31-year-old Karl Holt.

Windsor, who has alleged links to the Rebels outlaw bikie gang, is believed to have been staying at Thompson’s home when the raid occurred.

Thompson’s decorated AFL career includes three premierships during his playing days at Essendon and later coaching Geelong to two flags.

Last week, former Geelong FC President Frank Costa said he had “real concerns” for Thompson, stating that his friend had become a “less positive man” in recent years.

Thompson was an assistant coach at Essendon when the club's supplements saga came to light in 2013, which 9NEWS does not suggest is connected to the current investigation.
