Queensland duo who allegedly swapped seats after crash arrested for drink driving

A man and woman who allegedly swapped seats after a alleged drunken crash at a set of traffic lights in Brisbane have both been charged with high-range drink driving.

Police allege the 49-year-old Kippa Ring man was more than six times over the legal blood alcohol limit when he crashed into a car stopped at a red light in Margate last Saturday.

Officers were called to reports of the traffic crash at around 7pm on Oxley Avenue.

They say the driver reversed after crashing into the car at the lights, then drove forward and again hit the vehicle at a lower speed.

The driver then allegedly swapped seats with his passenger - a 43-year-old woman from Morayfield - who drove off.

Police later found the car in a nearby park.

The woman behind the wheel at the time was breath tested and allegedly returned a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) result of .213 per cent - over four times the legal limit.

The man, who was also still in the car when it was found, allegedly returned an even higher BAC of 0.338.

A blood alcohol reading over 0.3 per cent is highly likely to result in life-threatening blood alcohol poisoning and loss of consciousness, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

The man and woman have both now been charged with high-range drink driving and driving without a licence.

The 49-year-old man has also been charged with failing to comply with the duties of a driver involved in a crash.
