Marathon Senate debate seventh longest

A drawn-out Senate debate on electoral laws has become the seventh-longest in the past 26 years.

Senators have spent nearly 38 hours debating changes to the way Australians elect them to parliament.

That takes it past the 2002 debate on the research use of human embryos, but well short of the near-106 hours the Senate took to pass native title legislation in 1997.
