Lightning strikes within metres of Adelaide man with baby

An Adelaide man holding his baby has come within metres of being struck by lightning.

The near-miss happened during a spectacular storm which swept across South Australia overnight.

The tendril of lightning appears to snake down to the concrete driveway.

More than 80,000 lightning strikes were recorded, along with rain and hail.

Travis Casey was watching - and filming - the sky show from the porch of his western suburbs home, when a bolt struck his driveway.

"Smacked on the concrete and you could feel the shudder." he said.

"The baby jumped, I jumped, the neighbours jumped, everybody jumped."

Close to 45,000 homes were left without power at the peak of the storm, with repairs continuing throughout today.
