Man who dived into water off South Australia to avoid arrest found dead

A man who tried to avoid arrest by diving into the sea off South Australia has been found dead.

Police were chasing the man in Ceduna on the Eyre Peninsula just after 6pm yesterday when he jumped into the water off Dowling Crescent.

The man swam about 200m before patrols lost sight of him.

A search was carried out last night into this morning, and his body was retrieved from the water about 10.30am.

Police say the man was from interstate, but did not specify where.
