Man rescued from deep pit on construction site in Whittlesea

Emergency crews have winched a man out of a two-metre deep pit after he became trapped in Mernda, in Whittlesea.

Paramedics and fire crews responded to Sackville and Regent Streets after reports a man was trapped in a pit on a construction site just before 12.30pm.

“He’d been there quite a while”, Country Fire Authority spokesman Brian Scwon told 9NEWS.

The Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB)’s heavy rescue team assisted in the rescue, hauling the man to safety around 1.15pm. 

The 40 year old man was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with shoulder, pelvic and leg injuries. 

WorkSafe Victoria have reportedly been called to the property.
