Driver miraculously survives crash with freight train

A driver has been cut from the wreckage of his car, after somehow surviving a high-speed smash with a freight train north of Adelaide.

Witnesses rushed to the man’s aid after the collision on Tempy Road at Two Wells at 2.30pm.

“Heard the train honk and then, bang,” one witness told 9NEWS.

Another said: “We saw some smoke so my friend jumped across the railway and I called triple zero, when we realised there was someone in there.”

A man, believed to be in his 50s, was inside the vehicle with two dogs.

The man, believed to be a local, was pulled from the wreckage by paramedics and flown via rescue helicopter to Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The man survived and has non-life threatening head and leg injuries.

“He didn’t know what hit him, he had no idea what hit him or where he was when they were talking to him,” witness Robert told 9NEWS.

One of the dogs is seriously injured, while the other is missing.

Police are investigating what led to the crash.
