Man struck by taxi in Sydney CBD

A man has been taken to hospital after being struck by a taxi in the Sydney CBD, just five days after a woman was hit by a bus.

The man was hit on George Street near the intersection of Hunter Street at about 3pm AEST.

It is believed he had attempted to cross against the lights.

Traffic continued to dart around the man as he lay bleeding from his head in the middle of the street until police arrived about 3.15pm.

A witness tending to the man said he saw him step out into oncoming traffic and into the left front side of the cab.

"He was out for about three or four minutes," he told ninemsn, adding the man appeared to be intoxicated.

The taxi driver told police he had been travelling at only 2-3km/h at the time of the accident and it was if "he came out of nowhere".

He was taken to undergo routine drug and blood-alcohol tests.

Some delays are expected around Market Street.

The incident sparked painful memories for CBD workers who witnesses a woman hit by a bus just five days ago on the same street.

The woman was taken to St Vincent's Hospital in a critical condition on Sunday where she underwent surgery for serious injuries.
