Melbourne man stabbed outside his home

A Melbourne man has been stabbed while taking out his bins.

The 54-year-old Reservoir man noticed a bike lying beside his car in the driveway early this morning.

When he went to investigate, he was approached by a man who punched him twice in the stomach, police say.

When the man returned to the house, his wife found he had a stab wound.

He was taken to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.

Police say the attacker fled on a bicycle.
