A man has been arrested after being stabbed in a domestic dispute in Adelaide's inner north overnight.

Police were called to a pub in Regency Park just before 11pm after the alleged victim ran in seeking assistance.

A 23-year-old man had sustained self-inflicted lacerations during a dispute at a nearby Ferryden Park home.

When police attended the home they found a 46-year-old man had sustained a minor stab wound to the abdomen.

The older man was taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, where he has since been charged.

The younger man was detained under the Mental Health act and remains under police guard at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital. He is expected to be charged.

Police said the pair was known to one another, and the alleged attack was not a random incident.
