Police corner alleged Toowoomba gunman near bushland

Dramatic police video has emerged of officers arresting a man accused of assisting with a brazen Toowoomba shooting.

Polair vision showed police with their guns drawn as they arrested Jackson McInnes, 23, in bushland near McDougal Street about 2.30pm yesterday.

Just hours earlier, Mr McInnes allegedly drove his white car along Stephen Street on the wrong side of the road towards a police vehicle.

Officer attempted to intercept Mr McInnes, but he allegedly accelerated and travelled through a red light onto Ruthven Street, before mounting the footpath in James Street.

The dramatic dash through the streets came after Mr McInnes allegedly helped orchestrate the cold-blooded shooting of Rakaiya Dawson.

Mr Dawson, 20, had gone outside to meet two men in a car when he was allegedly gunned down in a Rangeville driveway in the early hours of yesterday morning.

There was an argument before the victim was shot at close range with two different weapons - once in the stomach by a rifle and once in the knee by a shotgun, police said.

Mr Dawson remains in hospital after ongoing surgery for non-life threatening wounds.

Police allege Mr McInnes threw the shotgun at officers from his car moments before surrendering yesterday afternoon.

He now faces a number of charges, including attempted murder, stealing and possessing a high-powered weapon.

Investigators are now working to determine whether a soured relationship might have motivated the attack.

Just days before being shot, Mr Dawson appeared to make contact on Mr McInnes' Facebook page.

"You all good brother? Swing me a message,” he said.

Police continue to search for at least one more shooter believed to have been involved in the incident.
