Man gunned down in Sydney street
A man gunned down on an inner western Sydney street was known to police.
The 44-year-old was found lying on a footpath at Petersham with a gunshot wound when emergency services arrived just after 11pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.
Paramedics tried to revive him but he died at the scene.
Investigators don't believe he had any links to bikie gangs, but won't rule it out yet.
"At this stage, he's not connected with outlaw motorcycle gangs," Acting Superintendent Alf Sergi told reporters at the scene.
The man has not been formally identified but is believed to be from nearby Ashfield.
Detectives from Marrickville Local Area Command and the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad have urged anyone who saw any suspicious activity in Railway Parade to come forward.
