'Is that you Dad?' Man reunited with lost wages after viral campaign

A man who lost his Christmas pay packet at the pub has been reunited with the cash following a viral social media campaign.

An envelope, which contained a substantial amount of cash, with the name Mariusz written on the front, was left in The Alexandra pub in Wimbledon, in London’s south-west, last Thursday night.

The pub mounted the campaign in an attempt to track him down.

“So last night in the Alex we found a pay packet,” a Facebook message said.

“It’s obviously some poor buggers Christmas money, so we'd really like to get it back to them. I've a hunch it was a bunch of folks I spoke to myself last night, they said they were from a construction company and the boss was called Geoff (he's got a beard).

“Now if this person can tell me which bar it was in, what the name on the front is and how much cash was in there (or IS in there) they can come and get it.”

The campaign went viral, with the post viewed 1.5 million times, shared 25,000 times and received interaction from across the world.

“After 1.5 million Facebook views, Twitter activity well over three million interactions, messages from Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Canada all over (jeez Canada loved this story, we'd have found him in about 10 minutes there), all through Europe and everywhere else, we found him,” a Facebook post read.

“In probably the most understated and anti-climactic end to a saga in history, Mariusz walked into our sports bar and said ‘I'm Mariusz and I think you've got my money.’”

Mariusz, who is from Poland, told the pub he didn’t tell his wife he’d lost his wages and only found out about the campaign to track him down when he son read it on social media and asked “is that you Dad?”

“Thank you everyone who shared it, retweeted it, talked about it and translated it,” the pub said.

“By hook or by crook we found our way to Mariusz, who "never" uses social media.

“We made a really nice man very happy and we gave him and his family a happy Christmas.”
