Man charged after allegedly threatening three-week-old baby with knife at Kingston, Logan home

A man has been charged after allegedly threatening a mother and three-week-old baby girl with a knife in a Logan house, and refusing to allow the baby to leave.

Heavily armed police officers stormed the Kingston home, south of Brisbane, this morning, smashing windows to end the three-hour siege and secure the newborn.

They were first called to the home about 5am, in response to reports 41-year-old Troy Fuller was involved in a dispute with the baby's mother.

The situation escalated when Mr Fuller allegedly barricaded himself in the front bedroom with the child, and an emergent situation was declared.

"It will be alleged the male was making threats towards the child," Queensland Police Service's Stewart Day said.

Officers fired 'bean-bag' rounds and deployed tasers in the arrest, and Mr Fuller was taken away from the scene on a stretcher with injuries to his back.

"The actions taken by police were exemplary and alleviated a situation that could have been very, very nasty," Mr Day said.

Mr Fuller was taken to Logan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said in a statement.

He has been charged with two counts of threatening violence, and one count each of stalking, burglary, child stealing, common assault, wilful damage, possession of a drug utensil and obstruct police.

He is due to appear in the Beenleigh Magistrates court tomorrow.

The baby was not physically injured and was taken to hospital for observation.
