Man picks fight with stingray

A swimmer has been filmed playing a potentially fatal game of chicken with a giant stingray on the Gold Coast.

The man can be seen trying to spook the sea creature by diving on top of it.

The stingray reacts by gliding away from the man who turns and begins walking back to the shore.

It's then - when his back is turned - that the stingray begins giving chase and darts towards the man.

Now terrified, the man dives away from the creature narrowing escaping its potentially fatal barb.

Conservationist Steve Irwin was killed by a stingray barb while filming a wildlife documentary in 2006.
