Man on NSW's most wanted list caught

One of the most wanted alleged murderers in NSW has been arrested after almost a month on the run.

Police had been looking for the man since finding the body of 52-year-old Anthony Thomas O'Grady half-naked and hog-tied at a cricket oval at Wickham, Newcastle, in late March.

Anthony Richard Dent, 53, was a week later put on the state's most wanted list and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

On Monday afternoon police caught Dent in a Cessnock street and subsequently charged him with murder.

Bail was refused and he's due before Newcastle Local Court on Tuesday.

Mr O'Grady was sharing a house with serial pest Peter Hore but police said there was no suggestion Mr Hore had any involvement in Mr O'Grady's death.

Mr Hore has disrupted a string of major events including the Melbourne Cup, the funeral of rock singer Michael Hutchence, and the Socceroos' 1997 World Cup qualifier against Iran.

He most recently made headlines when he stormed a hearing at the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption.
