Man found asleep with 'visible injuries' to face charged after police discovery

A man has been charged after a sawn-off rifle and a balaclava were seized in a vehicle stop in Sydney's inner-west this morning.

Police were called to Bogan Street in Summer Hill at 10am after a member of the public saw a 34-year-old man slumped in his car with the engine running for an hour.

"We attempted to remove the male and what we noticed was that he had very visible injuries to his face and he wasn't in the best of condition," superintendent Christine McDonald said.

Police were called to Bogan Street in Summer Hill at 10am after a member of the public saw a 34-year-old man slumped in his car with the engine running for an hour. Police carried out a search of the vehicle and allegedly found a sawn-off .22 rifle, ammunition, balaclava, gloves and cannabis.

Checks revealed the man has been disqualified from driving until June 2027.

The man was taken to Burwood Police Station where he was charged with possessing a shortened firearm, possessing ammunition without a permit, possessing a prohibited drug and driving while disqualified.

The man was refused bail to appear at Burwood Local Court tomorrow.
