Roy Tabalbag found guilty of Sydney 'love triangle' stabbing murder

A man has been found guilty of stabbing his girlfriend’s lover to death in a furious rage after he caught the pair lying naked in bed together at the couple’s Sydney apartment.

Roy Tabalbag showed little emotion this afternoon when he was handed down the guilty verdict in a Sydney court.

Tabalbag found his partner Geecy Rebucas naked in bed with 30-year-old chef Amin Sthapit at the couple’s Darling Point home around 11am on November 11, 2013.

The pair heard him unclip a security chain and enter the unit, the court heard.

Upon finding the couple, he went into a furious rage, grabbed a large kitchen knife and stabbed Mr Sthapit 14 times.

“Look, this is what happens,” he said as he repeatedly plunged the weapon into his victim’s chest.

The jury heard Tabalbag had suspected Ms Rebucas was having an affair for up to a month beforehand and had installed a special app on her phone so he could retrieve her old text messages.

On the day of the murder, he had used an iPhone app to detect her location, leading him to their apartment on Mona Road.

He had told his manager he needed to return home because he had forgotten about a fire safety inspection.

During the trial, the court was told Ms Rebucas had shouted, “It’s my fault!” during the attack.

Tabalbag and Ms Rebucas were both 28 at the time and had moved to Sydney  in 2012 from their native Philippines.

He will be sentenced in coming weeks.
