Man facing murder charge after stabbing in Melbourne's north-west

A man is facing court over the murder of a 32-year-old who was stabbed to death in Melbourne's north-west.

The 26-year-old man, of no fixed address, will front Melbourne Magistrates' Court this afternoon, charged with murder, intentionally causing injury and bail offences.

He was arrested in Mernda yesterday afternoon, three days after a 32-year-old St Albans man was fatally attacked.

Police collected evidence at the scene of the stabbing on New Year's Eve. Nine

The victim was stabbed outside St Albans Community Centre about 10.50pm on December 30 after a fight allegedly broke out between a group of men.

He was rushed to Sunshine Hospital, but died shortly afterwards.

Locals have told 9News the area outside the community centre is used as a base for groups of men and youths to gather.

Police have said they are not looking for anyone else over the death.
