Man lying on road fatally hit by ute in Lake Macquarie

A man is dead after he was hit by a car at Lake Macquarie in New South Wales early this morning.

At about 3.15am, emergency services were called to Alhambra Avenue in Cardiff.

Police were told a man had been lying in the road and was hit by a ute.

The man died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

The driver, aged 45, was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
