Police are investigating after a fatal car crash on the northern Gold Coast last night.

A Ford Falcon, driven by a man aged in his 20s, was travelling west along Yawalpah Road about 11pm last night.

As the car approached the intersection at Gawthern Drive, it collided with an embankment.

Emergency services arrived soon after, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson told the Courier Mail the driver “came into contact with power lines,” after he was ejected from the car.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

The crash resulted in almost 3000 Gold Coast residents losing power for a portion of the night.

The man was the sole occupant of the car and the Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.

Anyone with information is urged to Contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
