Families spared as stolen delivery truck crashes into NSW homes

A man driving a stolen delivery truck crashed it into two homes on the NSW Central Coast.

The people inside the homes, including a family of six, were unharmed.

Tuggerah Lakes Police duty officer Jennifer Lawton said the 25-year-old driver had been airlifted to Royal North Shore Hospital after suffering significant face, chest and neck injuries.

She said it was “very lucky” none of the residents had been injured

The man is believed to have stolen the truck as it was making a delivery to a Wyong 7-Eleven.

The keys were in the ignition when he got behind the wheel.

However, the man lost control of the vehicle just a kilometre down the road as he tried to negotiate a roundabout.

The houses he crashed into were damaged and the lawns covered in detritus including spilled milk, donuts, sushi and sandwiches.

The driver remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Following investigation, police charged the 25-year-old man with robbery, unlicensed driving and negligent driving this afternoon.

The man was refused bail and will next appear in Gosford Local Court on 21 August 2017.
